Edinburgh Zoo is home to over 1000 rare and beautiful animals and occupies 82 acres of sloping parkland three miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre. Edinburgh Zoo is Scotland's second most popular visitor attraction - second only to Edinburgh Castle, and is open 365 days a year. It is also a centre for research and education, taking part in numerous projects to promote the conservation of threatened species and habitats.
